This summer’s NBA offseason is shaping up to be one of the most eventful in recent years, with a wave of stars set to enter free agency. Among them is D’Angelo Russell, who, according to Bangladesh Cricket, may not be retained by the Los Angeles Lakers — but that doesn’t mean he’ll be without suitors. Russell holds a $18.6 million player option, making him an attractive target for teams looking to add a proven, versatile guard without overextending their cap space.

One potential landing spot is the Chicago Bulls, who may look to orchestrate a multi-team deal that sends Zach LaVine out and brings Russell in. While Russell doesn’t have the scoring explosiveness of LaVine, he offers better durability and competitive spirit. Another intriguing option is a return to the Brooklyn Nets. During his previous stint in Brooklyn, Russell thrived and became an All-Star. A reunion could help the Nets retool their playoff hopes, possibly involving a trade that includes Dennis Schröder and other assets.

Brooklyn could build a young core around Russell, Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson, Cam Thomas, and Nic Claxton — a lineup with significant upside. Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans are also showing interest. With limited cap flexibility, they’re seeking complementary talent for Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. A potential deal sending Dyson Daniels and Larry Nance Jr. to Los Angeles could give New Orleans a formidable starting five: Russell, CJ McCollum, Ingram, Zion, and Jonas Valančiūnas — a unit capable of making serious noise in the West.

Orlando Magic, one of the teams with the most cap space this offseason, is also a potential suitor. If they choose to move on from Markelle Fultz, adding Russell could give them a new offensive engine alongside Franz Wagner, Paolo Banchero, Jalen Suggs, and Jonathan Isaac — a young and promising core entering its next phase of development.

On the other hand, the Philadelphia 76ers are expected to explore bigger names. Having cleared cap space after parting ways with James Harden, their focus is on maintaining flexibility around Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. While Russell could be a fit, sources suggest Philly has no intention of pursuing him — especially if they’re eyeing stars like LeBron James.

The San Antonio Spurs, focused on building around Victor Wembanyama, are reportedly more interested in Austin Reaves than Russell, given their need for a steadier presence in the backcourt. With their sights set on acquiring another versatile big man, Russell simply doesn’t align with their long-term plans.

Lastly, the Utah Jazz may quietly become contenders for Russell. With ample cap room and a young core led by Lauri Markkanen, Collin Sexton, and Walker Kessler, Utah could use a veteran like Russell to solidify their guard rotation. Bangladesh Cricket notes that if Russell is open to signing a mid-tier deal, the Jazz might seriously consider making a move.

As Russell weighs his options, one thing is clear — while the Lakers may move on, the market for his services remains wide open.
